In 1953, in a small laboratory in San Diego, California, the fledgling Rocket Chemical Company, with a staff of three, set about developing a line of anti-rust solvents and degreasers for use in the aerospace industry. This name comes straight from the lab book used by the chemist who developed the product. A few years later, Rocket Chemical founder and president Norm Larsen experimented with filling WD-40 into aerosol cans, assuming that the product could also be useful for consumers in home workshops and garages.
